In League with STEM

About In League with STEM

In League with STEM aims to foster STEAMM interest among local, overlooked, predominantly Black, middle and high school students in partnership with The Midnight Basketball Program of a local nonprofit. To do so, we connect with volunteers who bring hands-on STEAMM design activities and/or embody relatable STEAMM role models to the students.

The Midnight Basketball Program + In League with STEM aims to foster STEAMM interest among more than 150 Champaign Unit 4 School District middle and high school students. Most are involved with sports or face other barriers against participation in after-school or weekend STEAMM programs, so we meet with them during school days at lunchtime. There are three ways volunteers can partner with our project:

  1. Model success in STEAMM in higher education and beyond as an in-person Speaker
  2. Provide us with hands-on STEAMM activity content "recipe(s)"
  3. Help students understand and complete hands-on STEAMM activity(s) as an in-person Facilitator
